University of California, San Diego, Franklin Antonio Hall, Engineering Interdisciplinary Building (EIB), La Jolla, CA
Construction recently completed, Randall Lamb provided electrical engineering services for a new 200,000 SF cross-disciplinary research building for Jacobs School of Engineering. The building contains thirteen (13) research collaboration laboratories, called “collabs”, to foster cross-disciplinary research and collaboration with industry partners. The building also contains classrooms, an auditorium, a café, and a central 4-story atrium with a feature spiral staircase. The project included 12kV and telecommunications site distribution upgrades, 12kV-480V secondary unit substations, an HVAC system consisting in part of heat recovery chillers, an atrium smoke control system, a 750kW emergency diesel engine-generator, and a 184.4 kW solar photovoltaic system. The project is pursuing LEED Platinum certification through the aid of dramatic energy reduction measures and on-site energy generation, in addition to bettering current Title 24 energy efficiency standards by at least 20%.
